can handle and put a turn it into a shoulder-mounted rig the good thing and the bad thing about modular camera accessories is that there are infinite ways to put them together which can be great if you’re trying to fit a certain need but it can also take a long time to kind of work out what it is you want to do and how you want to do it so that this episode I’m going to put the put the camera on a shoulder mount with 50 ml rails both front and back and then add accessories from there so the first thing I want to do is take off the handle because I’m gonna invert it and then that before I attach it to the tri plate supposedly there was a seat 200 for sale that someone had accidentally used two long screws and when that attached the top plate they had actually screwed it right through the casing of the camera so there was a discounted c300 on sale here in LA because someone had used the screws the wrong screws for the wrong accessory used the screws that come with the accessory you’ll save yourself a lot of grief this might be time to mention that there there is another type of handle attachment style that’s become popular called a NATO rail which comes from which comes from guns and it’s sort of a little pinching system that that clips on to a rail at the front of the camera so you can take a camera the plate off and on while securely I I think it’s great for smaller cameras or something that you’re just doing yourself it means that you could potentially have something loose pick up the camera and have the handle come off halfway through carrying it which makes me really nervous I would rather use his power and keep screws or hex bolts knowing that the handle is tight and fixed and can’t move and just take the extra time to move it when I do need it rather than having it fail in a bad way so this is the next piece of the puzzle which is a shoulder mount that fits into the tripod mount those of you have been watching my videos for a while know that I had a system at a version of this a little while ago the issue was that it sat up very high on the shoulder and so it was very choppy and it tended to tip shape solve this by rather having one one set of rails they go all the way through having rails at the front res at the back and then the shoulder pad in the middle so that you can get the center of gravity of the camera lower have a more stable rig so a camera still protected by the camera cage so we’re going to screw the we’re going to screw the first part into the camera cage so balances always the trick with this sort of system because you don’t want to attach the camera too far forward it’ll fall forward on your shoulder you want to have too far back you’ll be out of you’ll have the opposite problem and the advantage of this plate is that it has a sliding system whereby you can loosen two or three screws I should have mentioned it’s not a static thing as you use different accessories like a matte box for a full of focus or can’t even change the size of the lens from a small prime to a large zoom you’re going to shift the weight of the camera and it’s a great idea to have something that can slide back and forth on the plate itself to adjust to adjust bounce you so the next piece now that we’ve got the monitor attached the next piece of the puzzle is going to be the shoulder mount and the hand grips we’re gonna put on our battery plate onto these rear 15 millimeter rods touch our battery this this particular plate suits the c300 Mach 2 and the C 200 which both work on the pace and power system and the the plate itself has DTaP boxes so now that we’ve got this here we need to get our rosettes on and something I do like about the shape system is it’s a giant version of the push button maneuver so you have your large buttons that push and let you adjust the angle it also means that reading on a table is much easier because you can rig it flat and then put it on your shoulder final piece of the puzzle is the padding so you don’t have to put your shoulder on the screws and it just attaches with Velcro up underneath so now put the camera on my shoulder swing the arms down to where I want them to be adjust them just the length of these well I started the camera on my shoulder and then you know just swing the screen in but with the extendable handle he decide the camera and the weight of the body haven’t my rails to put on to add any other accessories I need so the other huge advantage of this system over the previous one is that the shoulder the shoulder map locks to a tripod plate it’s a pretty long tripod plate I believe it’s originally a Sony sort of system but reach over grab it you find the area at the start and then it slides forward and the whole unit is now locked on a tripod I don’t have to put the camera down on the ground if I have shots that a tripod based to take the arms off whew shoot a few of these the camera still all connected and I can work from a stable basis and then when I’m ready to get a shoulder shot again I simply release the quick-release pull it out slightly camera back camera goes back on my shoulder I can keep shooting and my second pivot point up here that I’ve kept once I inverted the handle so that the focus puller can have his own monitor or a director can have a second monitor or you can add a second recorder off the of the quick release system the push button extensions push button rotations on the handles are great it also has this little second crank blur to both twist and extend the handles for length it is on the pricier side it’s not as cheap as some other kind of Franken rigs that I’ve used before but the advantage is that it all fits together it works together it all has a unanimous design and you know pretty much any other camera guy should be able to work with this know how it works just pretty easily or quickly if you have multiple operators and again the idea that it’s just so balanced on your shoulder that the monitors right where you need it the same as before you do need to wear headphones when you operate the c200 on this rig because the exhaust port of the fan is like right where your ear is it’s pretty sweet system if you’ve got seven eight nine ten thousand dollars worth of camera gear riding on her shoulder to say nothing of you know the lens all the value of the footage of shooting you it makes sense
